Organ Donation - What Can You Do!
Glenda R. Daggert and Ira J. Copperman
Glenda and Ira volunteer at Transplant Support Organization (TSO) in Westchester County, New York; Transplant Recipients International Organization (TRIO - New York Chapter) and LiveOnNY, the federally mandated organ procurement organization in New York City metropolitan area. In addition, they are members of the Advisory Council for Donate Life New York State, a state-wide organization that champions organ donation and transplantation in New York. Ira is also involved with several other groups focusing on donation, including the Medical Advisory Board at LiveOnNY, the patient council for Mathematica, and the medical research program for the Department of Defense.
Glenda and Ira retired from IBM, after long and successful sales management careers. Now, they speak about organ and tissue donation at various organizations, including schools, churches, temples, businesses and hospitals, in order to educate the public about organ donation. In addition, Glenda and Ira participate in state and national efforts to improve legislation in favor of organ donors, donor families, and recipients.
Their main theme is “Organ Transplantation Works” and their goal is to increase the number of people signed up as organ donors so the waiting list can be eliminated.
Glenda and Ira live on the Upper West Side in Manhattan, New York City, and spend time with their family: their daughter Amy, granddaughter Chloe, grandson Seth, Glenda’s sister, and nieces and nephews.
